Getting ready!

We are currently rushing to get together our forward team.
The team will be working in the hurricane zone to evalutate and report needs back to the northern support group.

While you are down there in the impact zone, it would probably be helpful to ask people who do have Internet access to go to DIYparts.org to list any old computer parts that they have to donate to the public web stations that we will be building. DIYparts.org is going to be the site that PublicWebStations is going to use to keep track of the donated hardware.

Also, it would be helpful for you to ask people with public spaces to consider going to PublicWebStations.com's discussion form and letting the folks there know that they have a public space for a public web station.

How it works:
Operation Northern Dove is a not a charity, it's a network of volunteers, mostly churches and civic groups, setup to help disaster victims directly.
The members outside the disaster area collect supplies and funds and ship or deliver them to distribution centers in the disaster area.
Forward teams are in direct contact with vitctims and relief personnel and obtain lists of needed items directly from them.The lists of needs are relayed to supplying network members who fill the needs directly (eg clothing) or fund their purchase (eg fuel, emergency housing).
The advantages of Northern Dove are:
little overhead, quick response time, and no bureaucratic red tape in the way of serving those in need.
